The Supreme Court will pass the orders on Monday on BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s petitions challenging two High Court decisions on accepting charges and indicting her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain set the date after hearing ended on Sunday. One of the appeals was filed in 2012 challenging a High Court verdict that rejected a petition against a lower court order. The order was passed accepting charges against Khaleda in the case. On the other hand, Khaleda filed the other petition with the Supreme Court on July 26 this year challenging another High Court verdict that upheld a lower court order that indicted her for the same charge. The Anti-Corruption Commission in 2009 filed the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case for misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore by forming a phoney trust. The other case was lodged in 2011 for abusing power while setting up the charitable trust.
